WORKSHOPS
WHEN YOU WATCH TV, WHAT DO YOU SEE?
Screen acting requires a complex and diverse set of skills, so we have created a set of three independent but complementary workshops to focus on specific skills that actors need on camera:
Thriving on Set
Shining on Camera
Creating a Great Performance
You can take just one workshop and walk out with strong skills that you can apply right away, though many of our students like to come back and do all three, so as to get a much more in-depth grasp of all the different techniques.
Each workshop typically runs from 11am to 6pm and spaces are limited to 14 people per workshop.
We now only cater to pre-organised groups and can tailor-make workshops to the specific requirements of each class. Please get in touch for further information: info@screenactingskills.co.uk.

Each workshop begins with you acting out scenes in the same type of high-pressure situation you would experience on set. We then sit down and watch the footage together, analysing what worked and what didn't. After that, we teach you specific techniques and see them start working right away. Thriving on Set (2 days)
Have you ever acted wonderfully in a scene that never made the final cut of a movie? Or maybe it did, but featured you very little? This happens all the time and the reason is often that you made some basic mistakes, which made your performance difficult (or even impossible!) to edit.
In this workshop we look at simple but effective techniques that will increase your chances of having good screen time in the final cut:
You will learn:
- how to avoid the most common mistakes that land your performance on the cutting room floor
- how to deal with complex blocking and confusing instructions
- why and how the editing should influence your performance
- how to best express your reactions on screen
- how to create an interesting performance when you have no information or backstory
Before the workshop, we will send you some material to prepare. Please make sure that you do.
Cost: £160 per person (£20 deposit)
Cost for Spotlight or Equity members (25% discount): £120 per person (£20 deposit)

Shining on Camera (2 days)
Would you give the EXACT same performance in a small theatre above a pub as you would on the stage of the National Theatre? No. You would adapt your performance to the size of the venue.
In the same way, you need to adapt your acting to each single shot.
Some actors are 'camera friendly' naturally, without the need to think about what they're doing. Whether that is the case for you or not, mastering the techniques that MAKE your performance camera friendly will turn you into a much more reliable and solid performer.
You will learn:
- how to use your volume to create an effective performance on camera
- how to adapt your acting to different size shots
- how to adapt your acting to a changing shot
- how to always make sure your performance is effective on camera
- how the audience's perception of a performance changes depending on the information they have (and how to take advantage of that!)
Before the workshop, we will send you some material to prepare. Please make sure that you do.
